Thank you to Jesse Toso for bringing driftwood from Tofino to make our temporary sculpture park.
After a road trip with a surf board along the coast of Washington, Oregon and California, Stephanie French has been busy this week at the Sugar Cube Gallery. As well as painting some landscapes re-imagined from the road trip, Stephanie has been running an experimental coffee lab. Join her to test the results, they look good so far:
Nevena Tadic is a ceramic artist who grew up in Yugoslavia and now lives in Vancouver.
Nevena’s work incorporates hand built or wheel thrown functional pieces, decorated with slips and underglazes, all made with love and great care.
We are lucky to have some of Nevena’s cups, plates & jugs in the Cabin and very much look forward to seeing Nevena’s work in the Gallery.
Solanna Anderson, Journal to the Self Facilitator, will be holding a Journalling Workshop this Fall. A short course will explore journalling techniques for self discovery & creative expression.
Jesse Toso, our favourite chain-saw artist is coming back for another week of carving – dates to be confirmed.
Theresa Sheridan spent time painting in the gallery.
Jesse Toso picked up the chainsaw for the first time at Campbell River Shoreline Arts Society’s Annual “Transformations on the Shore” Chainsaw Carving Competition in 2005 and hasn’t looked back.
It was magical to watch this little bear emerge from the wood.
If you ever wondered how to carve a dragon, Jesse can demonstrate:

& ‘The Beast Of Bowen Island‘.
“To capture a frame is not simply to hold a moment in time, it is to sustain the sublime.”
We are not sure if Laurie actually said that, but maybe, maybe.
One of our favourite people was selling cool, refreshing lemonade on a long hot August weekend. The service, like the lemonade, was superb.
